✿ Biography
Frida Kahlo
1907 – 1954
Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón (July 6, 1907 – July 13, 1954) was a Mexican painter celebrated for her striking portraits, self-portraits, and works drawing on the natural world and cultural artifacts of Mexico.
Her work — deeply personal yet universally resonant — examined themes of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race within Mexican society. She drew heavily from Mexican popular culture and indigenous traditions.
Though largely overlooked during her own lifetime, her reputation soared in the decades after her death. She is now recognized as a feminist icon and one of the most important painters of the twentieth century.
